Brian Laundrie update – Autopsy reveals suicide as cause of death of Gabby Petito’s fiancé as family hopes for ‘closure’

BRIAN Laundrie’s cause of death was revealed on Tuesday as suicide by a gunshot wound to the head, his family lawyer said.

Chris and Roberta Laundrie have been informed that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head and the manner of death was suicide,” lawyer Steve Bertolino said of Gabby Petito’s fiancé’s death.

“Chris and Roberta are still mourning the loss of their son and are hopeful that these findings bring closure to both families.”

Gabby was last seen on August 27, 2021, in a restaurant in Wyoming with Brian.

She was reported missing on September 11 by her mother after Brian returned home without her on September 1.

Her remains were found in Wyoming on September 19 and his in Florida a month later.

Gabby’s cause of death was ruled a murder by strangulation and her fiancé was named as a person of interest.

  • FAMILY ATTORNEY ‘NOT CERTAIN’ WHICH FIREARM BRIAN USED

    The Laundrie family’s attorney, Steven Bertolino, did not reveal where the gun Laundrie used to kill himself came from or if it has been located.

    And when asked about the weapon used by Laundrie, he told The Sun: “Not certain.”

    Fox News reports that when the Laundrie family handed over their firearms to the FBI in September one was missing.

    It is not clear if this is believed to be the gun used in Brian’s suicide.

  • LAUNDRIES REPORTEDLY ‘DIDN’T RETURN’ PETITO FAMILY’S TEXTS

    It is unknown why the Laundries “didn’t return” Gabby’s mom’s texts as she desperately wanted to find her daughter.

    Nichole Schmidt says she tried to communicate with Chris and Roberta Laundrie after she lost contact with Gabby in late August.

    It’s not known if the Laundries’ deliberately ignored the texts and calls.

    Former assistant US Attorney Rahmani told The Sun: “Law enforcement found a backpack and notebook, that’s key evidence.”

    He added: “One of two things happened: He was either killed by an animal or a person or he killed himself. If he killed himself, it’s much more likely that he wrote something in the notebook about Gabby.”

  • MYSTERY REMAINS: WHY DID THE LAUNDRIE FAMILY GO CAMPING?

    It is unknown why the Laundrie family went on a camping trip shortly after Brian returned home without his fiance.

    The Laundries apparently went camping when their son returned with the van and without Gabby – but their family attorney Steven Bertolino told News Nation Now’s Brian Entin he “didn’t know” if Brian’s sister Cassie was with her parents and brother on this trip.

    Pinellas County records revealed that Laundrie’s mom Roberta checked into a campsite at the park from September 6 to 8 – days before Gabby was reported missing by her family on the 11th.

    “I talked to the police the second they called,” Cassie told ABC. “I called them right back. We were in Orlando on vacation with my kids at Disney and we came back to this.”

    Sleuths have speculated drugs may be involved in the Gabby Petito case after it emerged the couple sold merchandise emblazoned with the words “too high”.

    Sweaters and hats with the reference were listed on the tragic vlogger’s depop site.

    However, there is no indication that drugs contributed to Brian’s death.

  • DID THE FBI CONFIRM THE IDENTIFICATION OF BRIAN’S REMAINS?

    The FBI confirmed the identification of Laundrie’s remains in a statement.

    “On October 21, 2021, a comparison of dental records confirmed that the human remains found at the T. Mabry Carlton, Jr. Memorial Reserve and Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park are those of Brian Laundrie,” it read.

    “The FBI is grateful for the tremendous investigative support from our partners.”

  • WILL ANYONE BESIDES BRIAN LAUNDRIE BE CHARGED?

    After it was revealed that Brian Laundrie died by suicide, the Petito family was asked for comment and noted that they were “asked to wait for the United States Attorney’s Office to make a determination on whether any additional individuals will be charged.”

    It is not clear that anyone else is a person of interest or suspect in the case involving Gabby Petito or Laundrie or if the family is just being cautious.

    “The Schmidt and Petito family has been aware of the circumstances surrounding the suicide of the sole suspect in Gabby’s murder,” it said.

    “Gabby’s family will not be making a statement at this time due to the request of the United States Attorney’s Office and the Teton County Prosecutor’s Office.”

  • NOTEBOOK MAY BRING ‘UNDERSTANDING’ TO FAMILY

    Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe told CNN the journal could help to understand Laundrie’s “motive” or his feelings about fiance Gabby Petito.

    McCabe said a team of law enforcement experts can help to dry out their paper, “trying to recover the writing, the ink marks, and fingerprints.”

    He added: “In terms of understanding Laundrie’s motive, his feeling about Petito, maybe event any kind of notes or comments he may have made about the events—that notebook could shed a lot of light on those issues.”

    The medical examiner confirmed on Tuesday that Brian Laundrie’s remains were identified by both DNA and dental records.

    “Confirmation of the identity of the remains by both dental comparison and DNA analysis,” the report said.

  • BRIAN’S FULL AUTOPSY REPORT REVEALED

    The medical examiner released Brian’s full cause of death on Tuesday.

    “The cause of death has been determined to be a gunshot wound of the head. The manner of death has been determined to be suicide,” it reads.

    It said that complete reports will be made public when the full investigation is complete.

  • BRIAN’S FAMILY ‘MAY NEVER SPEAK’ ABOUT SON

    Brian Laundrie’s parents may never tell their side of the story, Steven Bertolino said to CNN’s Chris Cuomo.

    Cuomo asked the reason behind the family’s decision not to speak with authorities or Gabby Petito’s family.

    “I can tell you the reason,” Bertolino said. “I told them not to.”

    Cuomo then asked if the Laundries will “explain the situation” at a later date.

    “It may come out in the future, it may not,” said Bertolino.

    Laundrie’s remains were positively identified through his dental records –  exactly a month after those of Gabby.

    They were sent to an anthropologist for further tests as an initial autopsy came back inconclusive.

    “Then there can be people in the throes of various mental illnesses that can be kind of bombarded with violent images that are representations of how they feel inside,” Dr Guralnik added.

    Laundrie shared numerous art pieces that featured blood, knives, and violence to social media.

  • ‘SOCIOPATHS WILL ACT ON VIOLENT IMAGES’

    Brian Laundrie’s artwork was analyzed by a psychologist, who told The Sun that it’s “rare to act on violent images”.

    Dr Orna Guralnik, a Clinical Psychologist and Psychoanalyst from New York, said “sociopaths will act on violent images.”

    She added: “Many people translate difficult feelings that they have inside to violent images. Many people translate bad feelings into violent motifs.”

    When he traveled to Wyoming to recover his daughter’s remains, Joe Petito posted the “beautiful view” of a lake near where Gabby’s body was found in Wyoming.

    “I now know why you came here. #gabbypetito has a beautiful view from now on. Love you, and miss you,” Joe Petito wrote on Twitter, alongside a picture of a lake surrounded by mountains.

  • ‘SHE SETTLED FOR HIM’

    Livingston claimed he got to know Gabby because she would come to visit Laundrie a few times a week and that “she was always a sweetheart, very peaceful,” he told Fox News.

    “She was always really nice to me, and she was really outgoing. Once I realize that the person who was missing was somebody I actually knew, it hit me like a tidal wave,” Livingston continued.

    “I think the only reason why she settled for him is he wanted to travel.”

  • ‘VERY POSSESSIVE’

    Livingston added that Laundrie would reportedly attempt to mark his territory with Gabby and “would come over and do the boyfriend thing, put his arm around her, give her a kiss, very possessive,” Livingston claimed to Fox News.

    “He was a good employee who knew how to talk to people,” he revealed.

    “He knew how to make people like him, he knew how to make people happy, and he knew how to make people buy the product that we had, honest. He had the same kind of air you would be taught if you worked at a dealership.”

  • FORMER COWORKER SAYS BRIAN WAS ‘A CHAMELEON’

    Brian’s former coworker Livingston, 31, also described Laundrie as a “chameleon” who always had his hands clean even though they worked with plants and dirt.

    Laundrie would also make money on the side by selling drawings, he claimed.

    “I remember from back then he was a big yoga nut, always telling me, ‘I gotta worry about my zen,’” Livingston said.

    “And I thought he was this weirdo.”

  • FORMER COWORKER SAYS BRIAN LAUNDRIE WAS ‘A WEIRDO’

    Brian Laundrie was a “weirdo” who had a “quick temper,” a former co-worker has claimed.

    Michael Livingston, who claims he worked with Laundrie in a New York garden center for part of 2017 and 2018, said Gabby Petito’s fiancé was a “yoga nut” and was “very possessive” over Gabby.

    Livingston also said Laundrie was good at “making people like him.”

    “He never came across as the kind of person that would be the killing type,” he told Fox News at a memorial for Gabby in Patchogue, New York, on Sunday.

    “But he did have that tendency to be — I don’t wanna say the wrong thing and make him sound worse than he already is — he was kind of a guy who would get p—ed off pretty quick.

    Through their attorney, Laundrie family revealed that they would be cremating their son’s ashes and forgoing a funeral.

    His family left their homes in North Port on October 24 to grieve together in an undisclosed location in Florida.

    Chris and Roberta Laundrie returned to their home on October 26.

    Just days after, the family then held a press conference, where Nicole showed off matching tattoos that were designed by Gabby prior to her death.

    On October 3, 2021, Gabby’s family announced that they had launched the Gabby Petito Foundation in honor of their late daughter.

    On September 26, the family held a memorial service for Gabby to lay her to rest following the autopsy results.

    At the service, Joe said that he wanted people to be “inspired” by the life she embodied.

    “So when you leave here today, be inspired by what she brought to the table because the entire planet knows this woman’s name now,” he said.
