Owner Janet Arkwright, 44, had it modified when an infection robbed the red fox breed of the use of his legs.

Janet, of Oakworth, West Yorks, said: “At first Stephen – a twin – was born healthy, but when we put the lambs into the field the next day, we noticed mum had abandoned him.

“When we found him, we could see that he’d lost the use of his legs.

“We took him to the vet where we were told he had suffered a burst spinal abscess, which had caused an infection resulting in the loss of the use of his back legs.

“We were told we should put him to sleep but there was no way, when I work with disabled athletes, that I was going to give up on anybody because of a disability, I was sure there was something we could do.

“He took to his new wheels immediately. He’s got a real zest for life. He’s now getting into all kinds of trouble on the farm.

“The only real problem is that he can’t rest with it on, so he will come up to us and nuzzle us if he wants to lie down and we take it off for him.

“He is truly amazing. You could say that he is lucky to have us, but I think we are lucky to have him.

“We will be keeping Stephen as our pet here on the farm. He can even come in useful when he’s older as we will be able to use him in the breeding programme.

”It just goes to show that disabilities do not get in the way of living your best life.”
