“Late autumn to early winter is the perfect time to prune your shrubs,” the TikToker said.
“At this time of year, the goal of pruning is to keep your plants looking neat, tidy, and attractive going into the spring,” Hannah told viewers.
“The reason that we do this is to encourage vigorous new growth, healthier roses with lots of flowers,” she added.

She revealed that putting off pruning til spring will leave you with a lot fewer flowers.
“So when you are pruning your roses, the main things that you need to look out for are dead, diseased, or dying branches,” she said.
Hannah informed her followers that a dying branch usually has turned black or brown towards the tip but is still green at the base.
She advised aspiring gardeners to remove the dying branches in a specific way.

“So when you are making your cut, you’ll want to make sure that it’s not a flat cut, you’ll want it to be at a 45-degree angle,” she advised her audience.
Hannah highlighted the importance of cutting away from an outward-facing bud so that the rain can drain away.
She also recommended leaving rose hips on your shrubs throughout fall and winter as they are a source of food for birds in colder weather.
