WASHINGTON—The Senate voted 51 to 50 to approve Democrats’ climate, healthcare and tax package after more than 15 hours of amendments, passing elements of President Biden’s agenda that have languished on Capitol Hill for more than a year.
Vice President Kamala Harris cast the tie breaking vote in the evenly divided chamber. Passage of the legislation came after an all-night amendment process that began Saturday night and stretched into Sunday afternoon, testing lawmakers’ endurance but not derailing the bill’s passage. The House is expected to vote on the legislation Friday.
