SHOTS have reportedly been fired inside a Chicago Walmart after a fight broke out between two groups of people, devastated witnesses say.

Terrified shoppers ran for their lives after gunfire rang out in the busy big-box store on Saturday evening.

Chicago police have confirmed the two groups exchanged shots at the Pullman Walmart at around 6.42pm.

A witness said the incident caused panic among the shoppers, NBC 5 reports.

No one has been taken into custody at this time.

Police flooded the scene and filled the parking lot with a heavy presence following the shooting.
