A FABULOUS reporter has taken on the challenge of taste-testing Christmas sandwiches from high street stores.
Collecting sarnies from Waitrose, M&S, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Aldi, Ayla Soguksu tried everything from turkey to brie.

Rating them on a jingle scale between 1 and 5 – with 5 being the best – she reviewed each one on their affordability and just how Christmassy they really tasted…
And she did it all while blindfolded in a bid to see if she could figure out which ones were vegetarian and vegan too.
Morrisons: Plant Revolution No Turkey & Stuffing

Suitable for vegans and vegetarians, this sandwich is filled with vegan soy pieces, sage and onion stuffing and cranberry sauce.
While this sandwich was enjoyable, it lacked some flavour. It’s a solid choice for those who don’t eat meat, but not one that I would immediately reach for.
Because of this, it earned the rating of 3 jingle bells.

Containing shredded firecracker chicken on kalonji seed bread with crunchy cranberry slaw, this sandwich had a fiery kick to it.
It was tangy with a hint of spice and while I enjoyed it, it didn’t quite taste like Christmas. For this reason, it got a 4 out of 5 score.
M&S: Jingle Brie-LT

While it initially smelled quite smokey, I soon discovered the brioche roll was filled with crispy bacon, creamy brie, lettuce, caramelised onion mayo and a tomato and cranberry chutney sauce.
It was delicious as a sandwich, but I found the bread quite hard for brioche.

Even blindfolded it was clear as day that this was brie and cranberry, which made it all the more enjoyable to get stuck into.
The combination of the flavours was very Christmassy and it’s a great option for vegetarians looking to get into the festive spirit.
Sainsbury’s: Christmas Cracker Club

Sainsbury’s knocked it out of the park with this sandwich, which contained shredded smoked chicken, smoked bacon, pork, sage and onion stuffing, spiced cabbage, and real ale chutney… and topped with a gravy mayo.
The bread was also seemingly grilled beforehand and there was an extra layer – making it the thickest and most delicious sandwich from the lot!
While it might be on the pricier side, this sandwich tasted Christmassy and did not stinge on ingredients either.

Waitrose clearly knows what it’s doing as the vegan sandwich completely took me by surprise in the best way possible.
It was packed with flavour and it’s easy to see why as it has crumbled bubble and squeak, roasted butternut squash, spiced pickled red cabbage, chilli jam, vegan mayo, crispy fried onions and spinach.
It’s a solid 4 on the jingle scale, making it a solid choice for vegans.
Aldi: Turkey Feast

You can’t go wrong with turkey at Christmas and this sandwich definitely packed it in with plenty of it alongside crispy smokey bacon, meaty pork, sage and onion stuffing, cranberry sauce and mayo.
While it was delicious, the cranberry sauce didn’t shine through as much as it could have, leading to the score of 3 out of 5.

The clear winner out of all of these sandwiches was clearly Sainsbury’s very own Christmas Cracker Club. And while the price might put some people off, a good way of looking at it is that it’s more like four sandwiches in one – you get a lot for what you pay.

For vegetarians, Waitrose’s Brie and Cranberry sandwich is a very good choice and vegans will hopefully like the brand’s Bubble & Squeak just as much as I did.
