World Cup 2022 Opening Ceremony LIVE: Qatar vs Ecuador follows, kick-off time, stream FREE, TV channel, teams, latest

Welcome to the 2022 FIFA World Cup

The wait is over, the pre-Christmas treat every football fan has been dreaming of is finally here, the World Cup in Qatar gives us a showpiece tournament in the middle of the domestic season.

Qatar, a country with a population of less than three million, expects to see a total influx of about 1.2 million visitors from around the world over the next month.

With the Qatar World Cup planned to last 29 days (20 November to 18 December) this will be the shortest World Cup since Argentina in 1978.

The huge positive for us football fans is that as result, the schedule throws up four games a day for most of the group stages.

Talk of the tournament, ever since the news was announced that is had been awarded to Qatar, has been of a negative nature with the country’s human rights policy, how the bid was made successful and the banning of alcohol in and around the grounds, has given a negative outlook towards this World Cup.

FIFA have urged the 32 teams participating to ‘focus on the football’ now with the world’s biggest showpiece coming to the Middle-Eastern country.
